Tricks & Treats: The Best Halloween Happenings In SW MI
Hands up if you think Halloween is the best holiday ever. There are the costumes, the zero expectations of gifts or crazy overspending, the whimsical, magical atmosphere, the crisp fall air, the candy. It's truly a bewitching time, made all the better by the fantastic smattering of wild and spooky events to mark the occasion.
We've made our way through most of this list over the past four years and have some annual favorites, but there always seem to be new activities worth exploring. Check out the Halloween happenings running through the end of the month and get ready for the candy onslaught.
Friday-Saturday, October 4-5 | Zeeland
A small town celebration featuring fall activities, entertainment, a parade and more as the Pumpkinfest goes back to its roots.
Pumpkin Hunt & Spooky Movies at Virtue Cider
Saturday, October 5 | Fennville
Join the family-friendly pumpkin hunt at Virtue Cider and earn fun prizes, then stay for warm cider a spooky movie outdoors. Bring a blanket to stay warm. Free.
Friday-Saturday, October 18-19 | Holland
Discover the magic of Victorian Hallowe’en traditions and superstitions this fall at the Cappon House. Tour the dimly lit rooms, have your fortune told, partake in spooky parlor games, listen to classic ghost stories and carve a mini pumpkin to take home. $10 per person; free for ages 5 and under.
BOO on Your Bike
Sunday, October 20 | South Haven
Riders of all ages are invited to dress up in costume and get out for a scenic fall bicycle ride on the Kal-Haven Trail starting at the South Haven trail head. Prizes, candy, apple cider, doughnuts and free helmets for children will all be given out.
Gilmore Annual Spooktacular
Thursday, October 24 | Hickory Corners
A ghoulishly great time for the family, with trick-or-treating through the museum galleries, free antique truck rides, cider, donuts and hot cocoa, and a feature film in the theater. Free for ages 12 and under; $5 for adults.
Thursday, October 24 | St Joseph
Enjoy Halloween music, a magic show, hourly drawings and one free ride for anyone wearing a costume.
Glow in the Park
Friday, October 25 | Douglas If it glows, it goes! Enjoy dancing, UV face painting, a heated black light tent, games, grafts, food and more during this big annual celebration. Free admission. Cost for activities varies.
Saturday, October 26 | Niles Don a costume and make your way to Fernwood Botanical Gardens for trick or treating, crafts, spooky creatures, stories and more. $5 per car.
Treats & Trails
Saturday, October 26 | Holland Dress up in costumes and go trick or treating along the trails of the Outdoor Discovery Center, play games, make s'mores and enjoy wildlife encounters. Wheelchair and stroller friendly. $10 per family.
Halloween @ Sarett
Saturday, October 26 | Benton Harbor
Families can journey along the lighted trail of Sarett Nature Center to discover wild creatures and fun activities. Snacks and crafts will take place inside. $5 per person; bring a flashlight.
Sunday, October 27 | New Buffalo
Catch the colorful parade and trick or treat in downtown New Buffalo.
