What's On This Weekend: June 28-30

The summer vibes are going full force, which means plenty of ice cream socials, festivals, picnics and fun on the farm. Also unicorns, mermaids, superheroes and pirates will be making cameos in Southwest Michigan this weekend if you know where to find them.

  • Pull up for a starry, family-friendly double feature of Toy Story 4 and Aladdin at the drive-in theaters in Hartford and Dowagiac (through Sunday)

  • Head to opening weekend at Bumbleberry Farms in South Haven, with baby animals, shaved ice and other farmyard fun (no blueberries yet)

  • Treat the kids to a big-screen viewing of The Goonies at the Regent Theatre in Allegan


  • Spread out a blanket on the Cappon House lawn in Holland and enjoy a family picnic, with free ice cream, games, crafts and tours of the historic home

  • Make merry amongst the pirates commandeering Nelis' Dutch Village for a day, with theater skits, crafts, water balloon battles and more

  • Wander a mini-renaissance festival featuring an outdoor performance of Romeo & Juliet, food and more in Sauguatuck's Coughlin Park

  • Collaborate with your little one to create a one-of-a-kind story during the Little Authors program at Herrick District Library in Holland

  • Hang out with beautiful unicorns, llamacorns and menfolk at Fellinlove Farm in Holland

  • Take a tour of the historic Log Cabin Museum, check out the kids' activities, listen to live music and more during the Cassopolis Pioneer Days Festival (through Sunday)

  • Visit the Superhero Carwash in Saugatuck to get your vehicle looking spiffy courtesy of a hardworking hero, a fundraiser for a local family (through Sunday)

  • Learn nifty magic tricks and other amazing feats during a free-with-admission workshop at the Forever Curious Children's Museum in Fennville


  • Pick strawberries at a nearby farm during the short but delicious u-pick season

  • Bring a picnic blanket and partake in a day of outdoor fun at Virtue Cider in Fennville, with games, food, farm animals and tours

  • Celebrate summer with an old-fashioned ice cream social, with live music and kids' games, at South Haven's Historical Association
