What's On This Weekend: June 21-23

June 21, 2019

Happy Solstice! We've made it to the longest day of the year, which deserves to be celebrated. A lot. Get out in nature and soak up these lusciously long days if you can, and then round out your weekend with a family outing or three to one of the events below.

You can't go wrong with this lineup, which runs the gamut from hammer tosses to fairy tale singalongs

FRIDAY

  • See the family-friendly production ripped from the pages of Mo Willem's beloved books in Hope Summer Repertory Theatre's Elephant & Piggie’s “We Are In A Play!”

  • See the Michigan Highlanders compete in traditional feats of strength, including a Scottish hammer throw and caber toss at Waypost Brewing in Fennville

  • Mark the summer solstice with a starry hike Fernwood Botanical Gardens in Niles

SATURDAY

  • Bring school supplies for free admission to Nelis' Dutch Village in Holland and enjoy face painting, bounce houses, cotton candy, crafts and games on Kids' Day

  • Celebrate with the LGBTQ+ community and their allies with activities for the family in Holland's Centennial Park

  • Sing and dance along with fairy tale princesses at the Paw Paw Playhouse, get your face painted, eat sweet treats and take photos with royalty during a fun singalong

  • Make a batch of sparkly, space-inspired slime at the Herrick Public Library in Holland

  • Sit around the bonfire, listen to stories and make s'mores at Soil Friends Farm in Galesburg

  • Meet the Wayfinder Princess at the Tip Toes boutique in downtown Holland

  • Party with Sister Lakes Brewing during its anniversary celebration and let the kids busy themselves with fun special activities while you sip a tasty beer and listen to music

  • Mark the summer solstice at the Kalamazoo Nature Center's farm with a short hike, naturalist presentation and toasty fire

SUNDAY

  • Pick strawberries at a nearby farm during the short but delicious u-pick season
