What's On This Weekend: Jun 15-17

Hello, summer! Kick off the -- in our humble opinions -- best season of the year with festivals, parades, fireworks and so much more packed into three fabulous days. There is something fun for everyone this weekend, whether it's cheering on a cockroach race or getting your hair done in a Seuss-ical style...or maybe something in between. 

 

Read through what's happening before making your plans. You won't regret it. 

 

 

FRIDAY

 

  • Head to South Haven for a fun-filled weekend along the lake, with live music, dragonboat races, fair food, rides , a magic show and crafts (through Saturday)

  • Grab tickets for Shrek the Musical, a whirlwind mashup of classic fairytale characters based on the beloved book and animated movie, in Grand Rapids (through June 16) 

  • Hunker down for a Scrabble battle during Family Game Night at Between the Covers Bookshop in Holland

  • Check out live demos and incredible art at the family-friendly Ox-bow School of Art Friday Open Studio in Saugatuck

 

SATURDAY

 

  • Explore all things Seuss, including a Whoville Crazy Hair Station, face painting, inflatables, carnival games and ice cream at Hudsonville's free Summer Seuss Day

  • Discover your secret identity and learn about the awesome book characters in a fun, interactive program at Herrick District Library

  • Pack up your swimsuits and play all day for $1 on the slip n slide in Jenison, plus enjoy inflatables, food, balloons and more

  • Catch cockroach racing, cornhole tournament, a bounce house, music, food and the  Wildlife Safari show at the Summertime Jamboree at VanRaalte Farm in Holland

  • Dress up for an enchanted evening of a lifetime at the Grand Rapids Royal Princess Ball

  • Paint a one-of-a-kind work of art with flowers, twigs and other found nature items at the Forever Curious Children's Museum Nature Club drop-in event in Fennville 

  • Meet a real princess and get a royal dance lesson, story time, song and photos at Dance Arts in Stevensville

 

SUNDAY

  • Sign the kids up for Alex's Duck Duck Run fun run or 5K run/walk along the St Joe waterfront, and don't miss face painting, balloon animals, carnival games, inflatable slides and music

  • Catch the much-loved Three Oaks Flag Day Parade through the charming small town ahead of fireworks at dusk

  • Learn all about turtles at the Ottawa County Parks' Wildlife Encounters for Kids

  • Spend Father's Day making memories at the Henderson Castle's extravagant father-daughter dance in Kzoo
