Spring Break Staycation? We've Got You Covered!
Seven glorious days of open possibilities and no particular lay ahead for those of us with kids in school and a penchant for waiting till the last minute to plan stuff. Make the most of the break -- and keep your sanity intact -- with a smattering of exciting events scheduled around Southwest Michigan.
Experience the much-loved, Tony-winning musical at the Miller Auditorium in Kalamazoo. Lavish backdrops, costumes and musical composition make this an unforgettable production. Tickets start at $20.
Enjoy a special story time with Humpty Dumpty, Miss Muffet and others, as well as crafts, snacks, a photo booth and an obstacle course courtesy of the Grand Rapids Ballet School Junior Company. 11 am-noon. Tickets are $7 apiece.
A splash zone, water slide and more will keep the kids busy for hours. Hours are 11 am-4 pm & 5-8:30 pm. Admission is $7 per person.
Spring Break at the ODC | April 4-6
Enjoy a full week of hikes, stories and nature-related activities at the Outdoor Discovery Center in Holland. Fees vary.
Spring Break at Surfari Joe's | Mar 25-Apr 8
An 18,000-square-foot water park in Watervliet, with two twisty slides, a lazy river and lots of other fun water features. Hours: 11 am-10 pm (closes at 6 pm on April 8). $30 for an all-day pass; $20 for one session.
Join a local artist to create a unique work of art at the Fernwood Botanical Gardnes in Niles. Includes all painting materials, milk and cookies. $25 per person.
Spring Fling at Critter Barn | April 2-7
Meet the new arrivals at the Critter Barn in Zeeland, including lambs, bunnies, ducklings and chicks. Free; donations welcome. Open 10 am to 7 pm daily.
Forever Curious Children's Museum | April 2-7
Tons of hands-on exhibits and fun for all ages to explore, plus special activities each day, in downtown Fennville. All-day admission is $5 per person. Open 10 am to 3 pm.
Flick's Family Film Fest | through April 19
Kids ages 12 and under can watch family-friendly movies for free at participating Celebration Cinemas. Check the website for the current lineup.
Silver Beach Carousel | March 30-April 8
Enjoy extended hours at the carousel, with games, activities, popcorn and cotton candy for purchase. Check website for current hours.
Scavenger Hunt | April 5
Holland's DeGraaf Nature Center hosts a nature scavenger hunt on its trails. Enjoy a treat once you find your treasure. $1 per participant. All ages welcome.
Butterflies in Bloom | through April 30
Colorful tropical butterflies flitter around the observatory at the Frederik Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids. Special activities will take place daily in the Children's Garden.
Spring Stampede Kids' 1-Mile Fun Run | April 7
The kids can attempt a mile-long fun run along the nature trails at Sarett Nature Center in Benton Harbor. 8:30 am. $1.
West Michigan Whitecaps Opening Night | April 5
Celebrate Opening Day of the Whitecaps' 25th season, with replica jersey giveaways, fireworks and more, as they take on the South Bend Cubs. 6:30 pm. Tickets start at $5.
