Last-Minute Costume Ideas: Let's DIY This!
Raise your hand if your kids change their minds about what they want to be for Halloween more often than the October temps oscillate from beach weather to snow. Oh good. I feel better.
I seriously envy parents who can make or order their kids' costumes four months in advance with confidence, knowing full well that it is still going to be the costume of choice when Halloween rolls around. That is not my kids.
Because the tiny Audrey Hepburn costume is a perennial parent favorite.
I painstakingly -- well it took about 20 minutes and $2, but still -- made my youngest the cutest flamingo costume last year at her request, only to have her irrational 2-year-old self lose her marbles when I finished and asked her to put it on. Nope. It did not happen.
We have no fewer than 8 pairs of Minnie ears. This was a no brainer.
So it is with trepidation that I tiptoe into the spooky dress-up season, and when people ask what the kids are going to be, I shrug. Honestly, I have no idea.
Every year we have a short-lived witch request from this wicked little one.
. Ahead of our first Halloween outing, I grabbed a black dress that was languishing in the closet and we put together a few fun, easy DIYS. There may have been candy bribes.
If you're like us and waited until the last minute, maybe this will help get the creative, closet-digging, makeshift-costume-compiling juices flowing. It's pretty fun, and only slightly stressful, seeing what you can come up with.
Not pictured: Cute kitty costume. Throw on cat ears (who doesn't have those?), use some black eyeliner to draw whiskers and a nose, and you're all set. I don't know how or why I didn't get that captured on camera, but you get the gist.
