What's On This Weekend: September 15-17

We have a lot of favorite things, but the Superhero/Princess Weekend at Gull Meadow Farms in Richland (near Kzoo) was most definitely included on last year's highlight reel. It didn't hurt that they make some of the best donuts around.  

 

So while I can't recommend that enough, there's plenty of alternatives to make your weekend spectacular. Mine will be amazing no matter what because there will be birthday cake (!!!). 

 

Read on for the goods.
 

 

FRIDAY

 

  • Get to the Allegan County Fair for live music, delicious treats, thrilling rides and nonstop end-of-summer entertainment (through Saturday)

  • Explore ArtPrize Nine at the GRAM with a free, kid-friendly tour of 16 diverse works of art (through Sept 17)

  • Stroll through downtown Holland to see live mannequins adorning local shop windows

  • Experience the Bangor Apple Festival's fun-filled lineup, featuring a parade, face painting, pickle toss, bobbing for apples, bounce houses, popcorn and pony rides (through Saturday)

  • Learn about geodes and catch special exhibits, activities and kids' games at the Rock, Mineral & Jewelry Show in Holland (through Sunday)

  • Listen to fantastic music outdoors at the first South Haven Jazz Festival (through Saturday)

  • Discover lots of fun facts about squirrels during the Nature Saplings program at Niles' Fernwood Botanical Gardens in Niles

  • Come out to A-Mazing Acres in Edwardsburg to the farm for opening day, with a thrilling corn maze, barnyard animals, pumpkins and kids' activities

 

SATURDAY 

 

  • Help test the new candy cannon at Stokes Homestead in Grand Junction

  • Meet a "real" mermaid by the water and listen to live music at the first South Haven Jazz Festival 

  • Chat with princesses and superheroes on the farm at Gull Meadow, plus enjoy apple picking and fun activities for the whole family (through Sunday)

  • Learn about nature and explore the woods and gardens at Fernwood Botanical Gardens in Niles

  • Witnes a Civil War reenactment and enjoy treats from the era at the historic VanRaalte Farm in Holland


SUNDAY

 

  • Embark on a family hike through the woods while learning about local pollinators at the Kalamazoo Nature Center
