*Mothers Day Edition*: What's On This Weekend: May 12-14

May 12, 2017

We checked out the tulips in Holland earlier this week to beat the crowds and enjoy the rare shot of sunshine. I hadn't been since I was little, and it was jaw-droppingly gorgeous. We wandered around downtown for hours, then on a whim stopped by one of the parks for a little more floral enjoyment.

So that's my recommendation for the weekend. Tulips. They're awesome.

  • Try your hand at such early farm chores as churning butter, grinding corn and dipping candles at the Michigan Flywheelers Museum in South Haven

  • Celebrate National Public Gardens Day with free admission to the Fernwood Botanical Garden in Niles (must present coupon)

  • Learn about nature through crafts, activities, games, books, songs, live animals and more at the Outdoor Discovery Center in Holland

  • Head to Holland for the plentiful Tulip Time festivities, including arts and crafts, carnival rides, dancing and food

  • Help an Outdoor Discovery Center naturalist feed the reptiles and amphibians in Holland

  • Partake in games, crafts and family-friendly fun during the Allegan Block Party

  • Let the kids make sweet Mother's Day presents at the Forever Curious Children's Museum's Flowers & Showers program in Fennville

  • Catch Tulip Time's final day with a parade of spectacular proportions, music and fireworks in downtown Holland

  • Snuggle with your pup while listening to inspiring tales at Decadent Dogs in Holland

  • Tuck into one of many scrumptious Mother's Day brunches with the family

  • Take a leisurely walk and observe the wildflowers in bloom at the Kalamazoo Nature Center
