14 Spring Break Boredom Busters!

Seven glorious days of open possibilities and no particular lay ahead for those of us with kids in school and a penchant for waiting till the last minute to plan stuff. Make the most of the break -- and keep your sanity intact -- with a smattering of exciting events scheduled around Southwest Michigan.

Holland Aquatic Center | April 3-7

A splash zone, water slide and more will keep the kids busy for hours.

Hours: Mon-Fri: 11 am-4 pm & 5-8:30 pm | Sat: 12-7 pm | Sun: 1-5 pm Admission: $6.50 per person.

Kalamazoo Nature Center Spring Break Camp | April 3-7

Campers will explore nature with stories, art, games, activities, journaling/observation time, and hikes centered around a different theme each day. Discounts available when registering for multiple days.

Ages 4-5 (half day): $25 per day ($20 for members) Grade 1-5 (full day): $45 per day ($40 for members)

Spring Break Ballet Camp | April 3-7

The camp will teach the fundamentals of ballet in an interactive environment at the Holland Area Arts Council. Each day consists of a 75-minute program for two age groups (3-6 and 7-9), including dance instruction, snacks, and arts and crafts.

Hours: 9:30-10:45 am or 11 am-12:30 pm Fee: $135-$150 per child

Little Explorers at the ODC | April 4-6

Catch frogs, play in mud, listen to stories, create crafts and more for the day at the Outdoor Discovery Center in Holland. For ages 4-6.

Hours: 9 am-12 pm

Fee: $40 per child ($25 for members)

Spring Break at Surfari Joe's | April 1-9

An 18,000-square-foot water park in Watervliet, with two twisty slides, a lazy river and lots of other fun water features.

Hours: 11 am-10 pm (closes at 6 pm on April 9)

Admission: All-Day Pass: $25 | Session Pass: $15 Sessions: 11 am-3 pm | 3-6:30 pm | 6:30-10 pm

Spring Break at the Herrick District Library | April 1-7

Students can take part in their very own cupcake wars, circuit challenges and more at the Holland library with funactivities daily. Free. Times vary.

Spring Fling at Critter Barn | April 3-8

Meet the new arrivals at the Critter Barn in Zeeland, including lambs, bunnies, ducklings and chicks. Free (donations welcome).

Hours: 10 am-7 pm daily

Forever Curious Children's Museum | April 3-8

Lots of hands-on exhibits and fun for all ages to explore, plus special activities each day, in downtown Fennville. Spring Break Hours: Mon-Wed: 10 am-3 pm | Thu-Sat: 10 am-5 pm

Admission: $5 per person

Flick's Family Film Fest | through April 20

Kids ages 12 and under can watch Sing for free at participating Celebration Cinemas. Rock Dog will be featured starting April 7.

Curious Kids' Museum | April 3-9

Enjoy a very Seuss-ical spring break, with special activities, stories and crafts each day. The Discovery Zone is open daily 10 am-5 pm.

Hours: Mon-Sat: 10 am-5 pm | Sun: 10 am-4 pm Admission: $6 per person ($10 for one-day joint admission)

Butterflies in Bloom | through April 30

Countless tropical butterfly exhibition flitter around the observatory at the Frederik Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids. Special activities will take place daily in the Children's Garden.

Life-Size Candyland Game | April 6

Come explore an enchanting life-size Candyland game at the Fennville library. Open to all ages. 10 am-8 pm.

Spring Stampede Kids' 1-Mile Fun Run | April 8

The kids can attempt a 1-Mile Fun Run along the nature trails at Sarett Nature Center in Benton Harbor. 8:30 am.

South Bend Cubs Opening Night | April 8

Catch the season opener of the Cubbies as they take on the West Michigan Whitecaps. Don't miss the post-game fireworks show. 7 pm. Tickets start at $11.
