What's On This Weekend: Feb 3-5

February 3, 2017

You probably haven't heard (that was sarcasm), but two of the biggest local winter festivals are happening this weekend. There are promises of ice sculptures, hot chocolate and a whole smattering of fun activities for the kids that should be just the boost we need to make it until spring.

Also, I'm completely biased -- that's my little munchkin down there -- but I think you should go see The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Small-town theater doesn't get much cuter than this.

Enjoy the sunshine!

  • Experience a tropical oasis at the Silver Beach Carousel, with special activities, treats, a hula dance and giveaways

  • Explore the Forever Curious Children's Museum after-hours in Fennville during First Friday

  • Catch a colorful, charming stage production of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in South Haven (through Feb 11)

  • Catch live ice sculpting, horse-drawn wagon rides, a cardboard sled competition, chili cook-off, ice skating, s'mores and more at the IceBreaker Festival in South Haven

  • Snowshoe across a winter wonderland, and afterward warm yourself up with a bonfire, hot dogs and s'mores at Sarett in Benton Harbor

  • Roller skate (for free!) at the Park Township Community Center in Holland

  • Walk the trails of Holland's DeGraaf Nature Center with a naturalist, then enjoy hot chocolate and a winter story

  • Check out the frozen masterpieces, scavenger hunt, hot chocolate run and more in downtown St Joe during the Magic Ice Festival

  • Be charmed by a free magic show and snowflake making at the Curious Kids Museum

  • Frolic in the snow and try on snowshoes and cross country skis during the Winter Sports Demo Day at the Kalamazoo Nature Center
