What's On This Weekend: Dec 9-11

If all this snow isn't your cup of cocoa, stay cozily indoors with one of several stage performances (A Charlie Brown Christmas, The Nutcracker and A Christmas Carol are just a few), fun events at your local library or a dizzying array of crafts (snow globes, candles, cards, ornaments...) for the whole family across Southwest Michigan this weekend.

FRIDAY

  • Glimpse a live display of the first Christmas at the Critter Barn (through Dec 30)

  • Don't miss a live production of A Charlie Brown Christmas at the Holland Civic Theatre (through Sunday)

  • Meet Santa, take a horse-drawn wagon ride, pet reindeer and more during a festive fundraising night in Zeeland

  • Grab your tickets for a time-honored performance of Charles' Dickens A Christmas Carol in Saugatuck (through Sunday)

  • Check out the model train display at the South Haven Memorial Library (through Saturday)

SATURDAY

  • Sit down to a Nutcracker-themed tea party, with cookie decorating and dancing, at the Ballet Kalamazoo at The Station

  • Join Santa for a scrumptious breakfast and make a craft with his helpers at the Fernwood Botanical Garden in NilesLearn about animals, read books and meet a few friendly critters at the Outdoor Discovery Center in Holland

  • Dip and roll candles and make pioneer-era holiday gifts and crafts, such as cornhusk dolls, German wax ornaments and more at the DeGraaf Nature Center in Holland

  • Enjoy lunch, horse-drawn wagon rides, face painting, and a visit from Santa and Mrs Claus at the historic Felt Mansion near Saugatuck

  • Create a mesmerizing, one-of-a-kind snow globe at the Fernwood Botanical Gardens

  • Watch a special showing of Finding Dory at the library in Bangor

  • Kick off the season with the timeless, enchanting Nutcracker in South Bend (through Dec 11)

  • Take a bus to Navy Pier's annual indoor winter carnival, with a toboggan tunnel, winter mini golf, tubing, ice skating and carnival rides, then check out the Lincoln Park Zoo Lights

  • Head to Eden Springs Park at House of David for a festive train ride and enchanting illuminations

  • Make your way to Bloomingdale for the Parade of Lights and Old Fashion Christmas with cookies and hot chocolate, visits with Santa, live music and more

  • Listen as 100+ performing artists take the stage in a vibrant yuletide program for all ages at Lake Michigan College's Mendel Center

  • Sing Christmas carols, nibble on holiday treats, listen to Christmas stories and design your own holiday card or ornament at the Cappon House in Holland

SUNDAY

  • Make an ornament with items collected from nature at the Outdoor Discovery Center

  • Head to the New Buffalo Township Library for an afternoon of holiday caroling

  • Meet Santa and get your taken photo with him, plus enjoy holiday nature crafts at Sarett Nature Center in Benton Harbor

  • Enjoy the musical talents of the Lake Michigan Youth Orchestra during a winter concert at Bridgman High School
