What's On This Weekend: August 19-21

The last weekend of summer vacation is upon some of us and, instead of crying in our cold brew coffee, we intend to make the most of it. We've got three solid days of stupendous local happenings to punctuate a truly glorious Southwest Michigan summer right here.

  • Watch as skilled puppeteers bring beloved fairytales to life in downtown Saugatuck (through Saturday)

  • Head to the YMCA in St. Joe for a night of family fun, featuring carnival games and an in-pool viewing of "Rio"

  • Savor a quiet summer evening with live music in Holland's scenic Kollen Park


  • Surprise your tots with a Princess Character Breakfast at Burdick's in Kalamazoo

  • Stroll along South Haven's scenic harbor and explore a selection of spectacular vessels during the annual boat walk

  • Embark on a picturesque bike ride winding past lakes, farms, wineries and a cider mill, with several routes from which to choose

  • Witness your mini Picasso's artistic instincts emerge at the "Inspire Your Heart with Art" hour at the Forever Curious Children's Museum in Fennville

  • Check out the new Dr. Seuss exhibit at the South Haven Center for the Arts (through Oct. 1)
