Sarett Nature Center

Sarett is a non-profit organization situated on more than 1,000 acres along the Paw Paw River, boasting eight miles of trails, tree top walkway, live native animals, a playground and picnic area, nature center and butterfly house (in season). Kids' classes and programs are on offer. 


Sarett rents snowshoes and cross country ski equipment.

Outdoor Discovery Center

The Outdoor Discovery Center is a kid-friendly nature preserve focused on wildlife management, conservation, outdoor education and preservation. Programs include sensory nature walks, bird watching, fishing, archery, pond summer camps, snowshoeing, live birds of prey and wildlife studies. Visitors can walk the trails, visit the birds of prey and enjoy the outdoor picnic area.


Ojibwa snowshoe rental are available for $5/adults (ages 14+) | free for kids with paying adult

DeGraaf Nature Center

The DeGraaf Nature Center is a 18 acre nature preserve that is free and open to the public. The property is owned by the city of Holland and consists of several habitats including meadow, upland forest, lowland forest, marsh and pond. Programs are run regularly. 

Many of the trails on the property are wheelchair, stroller and wagon-friendly.

Trails are open sunrise to sunset every day of the year.



Loaner snowshoes are available for a small fee at the Visitors Center during business hours when there is at least four inches of snow on the ground.

Fernwood Botanical Garden

With sprawling gardens and winding trails, Fernwood is a nature lover's paradise. It also boasts a full-service cafe, art gallery, garden shop and library. Year-round activities and amenities provide visitors with plenty of family-friendly options. Along with bird- and garden-themed backpack that can be checked out for self-guided explorations, a new preschoolers backpack contains pictures, magnifiers, books and other materials that encourage kids to explore their five senses.

Kesling Nature Preserve

The Kesling Nature Preserve is home to a rich diversity of plants and wildlife, with scenic views of the vast ravine that slices through the property. It is also a popular spot for bird-watching in the spring, when a dazzling display of wildflowers provides another compelling reason to visit.

Holland State Park

Offers sandy beaches, two large campgrounds (including cabins), 25 miles of paved bike trails, a dune walk stairway and hiking trail, and spectacular views of sunsets over Lake Michigan. The park is divided into two units: one along Lake Michigan and the other by Lake Macatawa. Other amenities include beach volleyball, a full-service concession stand and firewood/ice for sale.

Kal-Haven Trail State Park

Encompassing 33 miles of former railroad bed that links the cities of South Haven and Kalamazoo, the scenic Kal-Haven Trail traverses forests, fields and 7 bridges. Open to all non-motorized bicycles, hiking, cross country skiing and snowmobiling when a 4-inch snow base is present.

Mount Baldhead & Oval Beach Recreation Area

Oval Beach has been ranked among the world's top 25 beaches by Conde Nast’s Traveler. Visitors also can ascend more than 300 wooden steps to Mount Baldhead and head down the grassy coastal dunes.

Saugatuck Dunes State Park

Spans 1,000 acres with 2.5 miles of shoreline, four hiking trails, sandy beaches, picnic areas and freshwater coastal dunes over 200 feet tall.

Warren Woods State Park

Located on more than 300 acres of beech-maple forest, Warren Woods Natural Area has a serene hiking trail leading over a bridge covering the Galien River. 269-426-4013

 The resort has 15 trails, a terrain park with a quarter pipe, the Pumpkin Park for riders to learn new skills and work on tricks, five chairlifts, five surface tows, snowmaking, night skiing, snow tubing, kids' programs, lessons, a restaurant/bar and equipment rental.

Swiss Valley offers 225 vertical feet of skiing and snowboarding, as well as 11 runs (day and night), chair lifts and rope tows, 2 terrain parks, a full-service restaurant and grab-n-go cafe, equipment/apparel rental, lessons and kids' programs.

The Valley Kids ski program is offered on weekends (and daily through Jan 2). Kids ages 4-12 can learn to ski in a fun, safe environment. A snowboard program is offered for ages 7-12. Half-day session: $65 | Full-day session: $90. Includes lift passes, all-day equipment rental, instruction, hot chocolate and snack, and lunch for the full-day sessions.
