The season for demolition derbies, carnival rides and all the fried foods has arrived -- quintessential summer vibes, even when you're baking into the pavement. Last summer, for the first time in years, we hit up the Cass County Fair, which seems so much more compact than I remembered. We zizagged our way across the fairgrounds, riding spinny rides, munching on elephant ears, wandering through the horse barns and checking out the monster trucks on a whim. Those were a huge hit. Event Recap: Front Row at the Fireworks | Grand Rapids

Because too many fireworks is not a thing (unless it's your neighbors shooting them off in the middle of the night and threatening to wake up the kids), I took advantage of our family membership to Grand Rapids Public Museum and snapped up four discounted early bird tickets to the Front Row at the Fireworks event the moment they went on sale.
