What's On This Weekend: April 5-7

Spring break is almost over (insert sad/happy face)! Make the most of it with a weekend full of fun for the whole family. We've got the scoop on all the best happenings across Southwest Michigan, from special spring break activities to early Easter celebrations.

FRIDAY

 

  • Delight over dazzling edible book art at the Kalamazoo Book Arts Center before biting into them

  • Cuddle up with newborn chicks, bunnies, lambs and other baby animals born this spring at the Critter Barn (through Saturday)

  • Grab a seat for a kid-friendly ballet for the whole family, pre-show activities, dress-up, and arts and craft courtesy of the Grand Rapids Ballet

  • Enjoy hundreds of tropical butterflies fluttering around the lush observatory at the Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids (through April 30)

  • Watch a free movie -- and themed activity -- at Woodland Celebration theater as part of the Flicks Family Film Festival series

  • Splash down the slides and zoom through obstacle course of the Holland Aquatic Center during spring break

  • Explore the dinosaurs and toys, make special crafts, play jumbo games and catch a planetarium show during extended hours at the Grand Rapids Public Museum (through Saturday)

  • Borrow a backpack, grab a list of questions and hit the trails of Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery for a family scavenger hunt (through Saturday)

  • Try out special spring break activities at the Forever Curious Children's Museum in Fennville (through Saturday)

 

SATURDAY

 

  • Celebrate Easter early with free photos with the Easter bunny, face painting and more at the Holland Town Center

  • Join the Spring Mini Pow Wow, with singing, dancing and a scrumptious feast courtesy of the the Pokagon Band Native Nations Youth Council 

  • Sign the kids up for mile-long fun run along Sarett Nature Center's trails during the annual Spring Stampede

  • Go on a fairy garden adventure and solve a series of garden fairy riddles to collect prizes hidden throughout the Wenke Greenhouses

  • Hop aboard the Easter-themed Coopersville & Marne Railway train and meet the Easter Bunny, sing songs and score a special treat (through Sunday)
