Sweet Spots To Use Your MAP To Score Discounts

It had been a while since we last used the Michigan Activity Pass, but I pulled it up recently to get BOGO admission to Nelis' Dutch Village for us and a friend and immediately wondered why I hadn't been taking advantage of it more.


If you've got a valid library card and a printer, you can "check out" up to one pass per week. Most are for one free admission, but there are some other perks too. Simply fill in your starting point, how far you want to go and if there are any types of attractions you're looking for (family friendly, cultural, etc).

 

Voila! Tons of fun activities at your fingertips, plus a little discount to sweeten the deal. Here are a few of our favorites:

1. Saugatuck Dunes State Park


This secluded, breathtaking state park features 200-foot-tall fresh water coastal dunes and 2.5 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, making it a perfect family getaway. MAP: Good for one free vehicle entry to park (camping fees still apply).

2. Kalamazoo Nature Center


Encompassing 1,100 acres, Michigan's largest nature center features diverse habitats, trails and a nature playground that will keep the kids entertained for hours.

3. Gilmore Car Museum


This sprawling Hickory Corners museum boasts an impressive selection of rare and classic cars from the past, including an 1899 Locomobile and '48 Tucker.

4. New Buffalo Railroad Museum

Housed in a Pere Marquette depot replica in the town's historic rail yards, the museum showcases enticing artifacts, restored train cars and interactive kids' activities.

5. USS Silversides Submarine Museum 

The family-friendly Muskegon museum allows up-close looks at the highly decorated WWII submarine and a 1920s Coast Guard cutter,

A ferris wheel, carousel, farm animals and other delights dot this quaint amusement park in Holland, complete with authentic Dutch architecture, flowering gardens, canals and windmills.
