One of my all-time favorite "dates" with our preschooler was going to see "The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Eric Carle Favorites" on Valentine's Day last year. It was a fantastic show, but the best part was watching the wonder in her big brown eyes as the story unfolded on the stage in front of us. It's pure magic for the little ones in a way that television or the movie theater can never match.
Luckily, our calendar this fall is jam-packed with live-stage tellings of some classic and contemporary stories in many forms -- plays, musicals, ballets and puppet shows -- across Southwest Michigan and Michiana. Some are more promising than others when it comes to entertaining the adults in the audience, but should you find yourself sitting down for 90+ minutes of live Octonauts action, just remember: 1) You are making memories. 2) The concession stands probably sell adult beverages.
